Hervey Bay Day 2

We were going to go camel riding but the camel barn was underwater so the guy had to cancel. Instead we rented fishing rods and spent the afternoon fishing off the dock. We declared war on the little fish and were outsmarted and didn't catch them. Just when we were giving up hope we each caught another type of little fish. People probably thought we were crazy since we started squealing. Then a random guy came over and asked if we needed help. So we let him re-hook our rods with weights and a swivle. Then we went fishing again. This time I caught like 3 fish and Carly caught 2. We were happy campers. After fishing we chilled in the room for a little bit, relaxing from being in the sun all day. Then we had a wine and cheese party on a bench overlooking the ocean. Awesome day!

Photos in backwards order... first our wine and cheese party!

The sunset was great:

We had a great breakfast at this cute little cafe. It was so good I wanted a picture of it.

This was from when we first checked in and there was no one in our room. By the time we checked out every bed was full.

Day 1 Hervey Bay

Carly and I got off the Greyhound around 1 in Hervey Bay. It was sunny (ish)! We took the curtousey shuttle to our hostel and checked in. We were excited to meet some new people because we booked a room for 10. We go up to our room and open the door to find... 10 empty beds. Um yeah we had a private room with ten beds. We left and went kayaking in the bay. It was fun except our dolphin calls failed to call the dolphins. Afterwards we went back to the hostel and found two guys in our room... we had roommates!!! We were excited about this and they seemed nice. Carly and I showered and then went and got dinner at Thai Yum-Yum! It was yum yum! (sorry had to say it). Then we went to a bar to get a drink and ended up watching dog racing with a bunch of old men. Um yeah. The guys from our room texted us and said to join them at The Blazing Saddles so we figured that would be better than dog racing. We ended up talking to the guys and drinking and overall having a really fun time!

Carly in the kayak

I was happy to be outside! Though somehow I pulled a leg muscle while kayaking.

This is Diesel the dog from the hostel in Brisbane. He was so cute he needed a picture on this blog.

Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary

Day two in Brisbane! Carly and I wake up, find a cafe and have breakfast then make our way to the bus station to catch a bus to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary about 30minutes outside of Brisbane. We didn't really know what to expect other than they had koalas. We get there and find out that they have wide open pens with kangaroos and walabees that we can play with and feed! Pictures are the only way to describe how cool that was! So here you go:

First we watched a dog herding demo. The dogs are trained to run over the sheep when they are in pens:

We got our picture taken with Crumpet the Koala. She is 6 years old. It was really cute!

Dingo!!! (they looked different than the other ones I saw but they were just as cute and this one chased his tail)

Brisbane- Day 1

After leaving Byron Bay at 6:45am I made it to Brisbane at 10am. I waited for Carly in the transit center while drinking a lovely mocha. After much jumping up and down in my seat waiting... Carly and I were finally united again!!! (okay yes cheesy but this is setting the stage for many "couple posed" photos later on). We walked (uphill) to our hostel and checked in. The hostel was really cute and had two very cute dogs (Diesel and Chopper) so of course we were happy. We found lunch at a cute little cafe down the street then headed to downtown Brisbane. After that we walked around Brisbane and checked out the free museum... there was a reason why it was free. We froliced through the botanic gardens on the river. Then we saw a ferris wheel and decided that would be fun. We got to go around on the ferris wheel 5 times! woo hoo! After the ferris wheel we found a cute little pub and had a drink while watching some women get completely trashed. They were crazy! After that we walked back to the hostel and decided to try the pub down the street. This pub was really nice and we had a few more drinks while watching people go crazy over a rugby game. We ate pizza outside then called it a night!

Randoms from Byron Bay

Random photos from Byron bay that were supposed to go with my previous posts but couldn't be loaded do to bad computers (they are in some sort of order but not completely)....

Me pretending to enjoy the 13 hour bus ride from Sydney to Byron Bay

Pretty ocean

This is what I looked at while I ate my lunch on my hike:

At a lookout point up on a cliff... it was really wavey!

There were lots of surfers at Byron Bay

Two guys who performed at the talent show at the other hostel

My two German friends, Hannah and Maria, with "the Goon"

The rainforest I hiked through on the first day. It was just me, trees and dirt.

The lighthouse that I hiked to. It was pretty!

The wind was crazy!

Little crabs would make these cool patterns of sand on the beach

A pretty shell that I found on the beach

The sun came out the last day I was in Byron Bay!

So I lay on the beach, read my book and ate Tim-Tams! It was a good day!

Filling Becky's Request...

Becky requested I give a tour of one of the hostels so here is the one that I stayed at in Byron Bay. It was the Byron Bay YHA. The YHA had tons of fun people and it was kind of a cool layout but it wasn't very new and the rooms had some mold but I liked it overall.... anywho onto pictures:

The outside of the hostel from across the street

The common rooms... I was standing in the reading room and the other side of the glass wall was the computer room.

My room with a line strung across to attempt to dry all our clothes but it was so wet everywhere that it didn't really work.

The pool in the center of the hostel courtyard. It wasn't used when I was there because it rained the whole time but it would be nice with sun.
The pool table and upper deck area where you eat and such... this was also taken during the little pool competition they had one night.
The outdoor BBQ area

The kitchen... this kitchen was huge compared to the other ones and it was really nice.

To prove we are alive...

This is our new friend Crumpet...

Woo hoo!

Carly and I are alive. We are currently at some random Asian internet center and we have no clue how long we have left (online). We are going to Hervy Bay/Fraser Island tomorrow via bus and the hostel has interent so I will do a proper update then with TONS of pictures (cute cuddley koalas anyone?) okay peacing out.

Roma Street Station

I am currently at a random internet center in Roma Street Station waiting for Carly to get here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so excited I had to write something on my blog about it. Hopefully we don't get kicked out for being too crazy when we see eachother. It has been like 3 months or something rediculous since we last saw eachother so this reunion will be joyus!!!

Chillin'

Byron Bay is one of the most laid back places... the pot and alcohol probably help the people but it makes for a relaxed time for everyone. Yesterday I just hung around the hostel and watched the rain after shopping. The only thing I bought when shopping was a new book since I finished my other one. This is book #5 for this trip... I haven't read that much in years and I love it. So I hung around and read the book, played around online for a little bit and talked so some people. At night I hung out with my two German roommates and drank really cheap wine. Then we went to a talent show at another hostel to watch. We got there a little late but we saw some people sing and it was fun. Then we came back and hung out on the porch with some other people from the hostel. We talked and they drank. I don't really like wine so I just had fun watching them. I have met some really nice people at this hostel. I haven't done a whole lot but meeting people is great fun too! Early tomorrow morning I head up to Brisbane to meet Carly and then more adventures will happen :-)

Surfer Land

I still can't figure out how to load pictures from this computer... it doesn't like me. Oh well.

Last night the hostel was having all you can eat $5 pizza. So I joined in on that and hung out with the people in my hostel. After pizza they had a pool competition. I really suck at pool but played anyway. I didn't win but it was fun and I met a lot of neat people (Germany, France, USA, Belgium and more). Today the sun was trying to come out but now the rain took over again. After updating I think I will walk into town (it is like a block away) and go shopping. Byron Bay is basically a surfer's paradise and if you don't surf you can't really do anything on a rainy day. But there are a lot of cool shops so I am going to check those out and see what I find!
